IN THE MEDIA: The Bower Byron Bay / Conde Nast Traveller Hot List 2018
The Bower, Byron Bay is just one of two aussie hotels listed in conde nast travellers global 2018 hot list of new hotels, restaurants, beach clubs and bars. Now that’s some achievement and we have to say we’re pretty chuffed that this go-to luxury and lifestyle magazine so appreciates what we believe is the jewel in the crown of the bba beach holiday accom portfolio and wants to share it with their readers, who they define as the influential, the curious and the rusted-on traveller!
We’re one of just 51 hotels from around the world listed, and my goodness, aren’t we in great company. We have to say, the other Australian hotel listed – Paramount House Hotel in Surry Hills – shares some things in common with Byron Beach Abodes properties: their mix of heritage brightened with new, and a delightful blend of textures from leather to linens in their decor. And we love their line that ‘to be a guest is to be a friend.’ It’s exactly how we feel at BBA and The Bower, and we’re thrilled that the secret reviewer from Conde Nast chose to highlight The Bower’s super-attentive service, from the smallest request to the largest, as a focal point. We want every guest to feel liked they’ve stepped inside a home-away-from-home, and are indulged to the max like our closest friends and family.
And we LOVED reading about the other amazing properties on their list from Portugal to France, Denmark to the USA and so many more. With our wanderlust well and truly ignited, we’ve chosen a few of our favourites to share before you get to explore the whole Conde Nast list.
Berber Lodge, Morocco which is nestled into the foothills of the Atlas Mountains on the outskirts of Morrocco’s Pink City. We love its adobe-like structures, delightfully eccentric gardens and rustic chic which combines a mix of bespoke wicker furniture, Berber bridal chests and hand-knotted rugs.
Bawah Reserve, Indonesia has just 35 hand-built villas strung along a white-sand beach or on stilts over the water. Muslin-draped beds, copper baths and huge daybeds, treks through the jungle forest to the spa for a daily massage, dragon-fruit cocktails with a side of crab tartare and avocado and mango salsa beside the infinity pool…get us on that seaplane now!
Mombo Camp, Botswana. A renowned safari lodge on a 45,000 hectare plot, Mombo Camp has been reimagined with lots of antique brass, plump, buttoned Chesterfields, Mervyn Gers ceramics and Belgian linen sheets on hand-stitched and crackled-leather beds. Beautiful. There’s game watching, yoga, laps in the pool, and the firm-handed massage in the Africology Spa to enjoy. And we love that Mombo has played a pivotal role in the protection of Rhinos.
Ventana, California is all about wilderness meets laid-back Zen. It’s accom is rustic-luxe with rough-hewn cedar buildings, tents in the woods, infinity-edged hot tubs, outdoor spa cabanas and views of the Santa Lucia mountains plunging down to the Pacific. It’s all about connecting with nature at Ventana, with California’s most dramatic coastline at the front and peaceful redwood wilderness at the back.
Branco, Mykonos – With staff in khaki linen, calm shades of white, earth and sand, a menu to suit every health-conscious hedonist, barefoot workouts, healing sound meditations and an aesthetic which sees mid-century meet modern minimalism, what’s not to love?
Dimora Delle Balze, Sicily, with its cool stone floors, vaulted ceilings in duck-egg blue, dusty pink and soft green, contemporary Italian pieces mixed with vintage finds, bespoke Moroccan tiles, shady terraces and courtyards paved with pale stone from Modica, is a rebirthed, centuries old fortified country house. A swim in the saltwater pool in the scented Mediterranean garden, a mint tea, and dinner of shrimp and pistachios under an inky star-filled sky…now that’s wanderlust-worthy.
And of course The Bower, Byron Bay which incorporates The Bower Suites, The Bower Cottage, The Bower Barn, and The Bower House where we’re all about understated luxury, effortless elegance and the barefoot beach ambience of Byron meets sophisticated New York. We’re about exquisitely styled, superbly provisioned, light filled spaces and every little detail, from the comfiest of beds to Lekka bikes with baskets to peddle your way through the laid-back, boutique-filled streets of Byron. Long stretches of sandy beach, pristine Pacific Ocean waters, long lazy days after breathtaking sunrises, wanders through eclectic villages in the lush hinterland, gourmet food experiences crafted from fresh local produce, hiking, private yoga, pamper packs, cool cocktails and loads of do nothing or do lots. And we’ll like you to join us please.
