If you’re looking to experience Byron without the crowds, the winter months are the ideal time to travel.

This weekend, Splendour in the Grass (Friday, 22 — Sunday, 24 July 2022) makes its triumphant return with a bevy of international musical acts and local heavyweights. This year’s line up boasts Gorillaz, The Strokes, Tyler the Creator as well as The Jungle Giants, North East Party House and late addition The Avalanches.
Come August, it’s time to immerse yourself in Australia’s largest regional writers festival, The Byron Writers Festival (Friday, 26 — Sunday, 28 August 2022. After a two-year hiatus, the festival returns with a program featuring more than 140 guests appearing in person at the new festival site at North Byron Parklands, Bundjalung Country.
Thanks to a colder than usual winter in Byron Bay this year we’ve been obsessed with the offerings Nimbus and Trybe Wellness. Infrared saunas assist in ridding the body of unwanted toxins, while providing an immunity boost and opportunity to recharge both the mind and body.
We absolutely love this as a date idea with your significant other. It’s a great opportunity to indulge in some distraction-free time together.
Every winter we welcome back whale season as Humpback and Southern Right Whales make their annual migration to northern breeding grounds. If you are standing onshore look for water droplets spouting from the waves as dark shadows rise beneath the surface.
It’s such a special time of year, and we wholeheartedly suggest getting as close as you (safely) can to the action. Out of the Blue Adventures offers in-depth tours led by a Marine Biologist with the promise of free return trip if you don’t see a whale.
After hanging up our dancing shoes for two whole years, there’s nothing more liberating than heading out for a night out on the town without being told to sit down when you have a drink in your hand!
Casa Luna and Lovers Lane are both relatively new to town and come with the promise of late-night dance parties for you to create some blurry yet beautiful holiday memories!
If there is one thing Byron does well, it’s a Happy Hour! Come 4pm the majority of the bars in town will lure you in with cheap cocktails and bar snacks! A fair few do a late-night Happy Hour as well, Espresso Martini anyone?!
